Overview

A REDESIGN OF LOOKSRARE WEB INTERFACE

LooksRare is an NFT marketplace for collectors, creators, and traders. The purpose of this redesign is to improve the existing user interface, which facilitates a seamless user experience.

Understanding Users' Problem, Why Redesign?

LooksRare is a decentralized NFT marketplace that focuses on rewarding collectors, and creators for interacting with their platform. LooksRare is built on the Ethereum blockchain and allows participants to trade Ethereum NFTs available on OpenSea (a similar platform). Despite its rewards system and is a great platform, the website seems not to give users a great experience to help achieve their goals when using the platform. With the evolving ‘craze’ in the Web 3 space, NFTs have become so much popular and it is only important that platforms that are in Web 3 space are simplified and detailed especially for newbies. This then calls for a redesign of certain features to help improve the user interface which will in turn give a great user experience

EMPATHY

  • USER RESEARCH

Being an existing and functional website, it was quite easy to find users of the platform and engage in an objective research. We were able to get both qualitative and quantitative responses that helped us to empathize with users, and also get to know their challenges when using the platform. We sent out Google survey forms to over 20 users, both new and existing users to help us understand their overall experience with the website.

From the research, we were able to deduce that:
40% of users use LooksRare while 60% use OpenSea
Over 70% of newbies have challenges finding resources that ease them into the platform
Both new and existing users do not seem to understand some of the icon labels.

Below is a screenshot of responses from the interview.

  • COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Similar to LooksRare, there are other competitors like OpenSea, Magic Eden, and Solanart to mention a few who also serve the same purpose and objectives to their users. We were able to interact and review other NFTs platforms and check other people’s reviews about them to understand their strategy and success in the market. These findings were used to help improve user experience.

DEFINE

After objective research using the un-moderated mode of interview, with the use of Google forms to gather the views of the users. From the result, we were able to deduce the challenges that the users have while navigating the platform. After this we analyzed the result and documented it.

  • PAINPOINTS

  • Users shouldn't have to go through multiple hurdles to perform an action

  • Inability to navigate the site easily as a newbie

  • Absence of a resource page that contains guides for newbies

  • Inability to check transaction history

  • Charges on each item in a folder

  • Too much cognitive load on the items’ profile page

  • USER STORIES

‘As a user, I want a platform that is user-friendly and self-explanatory, so that I do not make errors while buying or selling an NFT as transactions made can not be reversed'

‘Being a beginner in the NFT space, I want to be able to get a guide on how to properly navigate the space and have a platform that simplifies the process for me'.

THE REDESIGN

HERO SECTION

While the hero section looks great, there were some notable changes which includes both visual and texts to help ease the platform for the users. To start with is the search button, the texts on the search button just says ‘search’ which limits the button’s potential for users. While redesigning this, we used the words 'search collections, items or accounts ‘ so users can see glance options they can search for when using the search button.

While the light mode and dark mode icons do not portray the action, the icon used is not a universal icon for that action.

There is also an inclusion of ‘Resources’ which is created to ease new users into the platform. We created a button for users to also get to know about the LooksRare platform.

EXPLORE PAGE

For the explore page, there is no categorization done. And having categories makes it easy for users to explore collections. This is why we decided to categorize the items, and also take out any element that might lead to too much cognitive load for the users.

CONNECT WALLET PROMPT

When users click on the Connect wallet button, some prompts include information for them to fill in to connect their wallet. We made these prompts interfaces to be friendlier and easier to use by changing the buttons and general outlook.

NEW FEATURES ADDED

During our research, the users requested the ability to report items that they might perceive to be inappropriate or a scam, this is why we decided to include a report modal and form so the users can submit a report on an item or page.

Another newly added feature is a guide, that is a walk-through for new users, so they can be able to complete the primary actions on getting started as an NFT rookie.

A guide was not the only thing requested for by the users during the interview, users also requested for a resources feature. And during the ideation process, we realized that the resources feature will come in handy for users, both new and old users. And it has to be made easily accessible, this is why we included it on header. Below is an image of the resources modal.

Key Takeaways

The web3 space is getting the attention it deserves and there are quite a number of marketplaces on the space that users intereact with. As a result of this, it is important to ensure that the space is safe for everyone, be it rookies or the existing users. A single wrong move can lead to one losing a fortune, and when this happens, the users will be discouraged to come back to that platform/marketplace where they lost their fortune.

This project was one that opened our eyes to limitations users are experiencing in the web3 space and their expectations. Users should be able to navigate the platform without having to guess what certain icons or texts mean in the space. In other words, the platform should be simplified. Other than this is the inclusion of the Resources page which we gathered from our user research as a neccessity for all users both new and existing. A guide is provided for new users to onboard them on how to set up wallet, secure their wallet and also list an NFT on the platform. Existing users can also use the resources page to check newsletters, blogs and support.

Lastly, in as much as the web 3 space is a decentralised space, users should still be able to have some form of trust in the plaform they use through features such as ‘report’. Users should be able to report collections and artists they think are scam projects. This potrays that the platform is user-centered.
